Before Copenhagen Summit - remind our politicians
Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:49AM
In mid-December the nations of the world will meet in Copenhagen to try to find a way to slow and stop catastrophic climate change. There is a broad scientific consensus that we in the rich countries must reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 25% globally before 2020. This is do-able with existing technology but it will take new government policies.
The Canadian government has refused to commit to binding targets to reduce our emissions, one of the few rich countries to refuse. The government believes that Canadians don't really care. We can speak otherwise.
Take a few minutes and write a letter to you Member of Parliament - whether government or oppostion. There is a sample letter with MP addressess available in Member Documents - Miscellany. If you aren't sure who is your MP you can look at the constituency maps to check this.
Take a moment to make a second copy of your letter for posting on our 'Letters of Change' tree at worship.
